Moxa, Cupping and Electro-puncture
Moxa, Cupping and Electro-puncture are other treatment modalities sometimes used.
Moxabustion, or moxa, for short, is the application of an organic heat using a burning herb, mugwort or artemisia. This technique adds energy and encourages the functional aspects of the chosen points. Usually, the Moxa warmth is indirectly applied using a moxa stick. Acupuncture and Moxabustion are complementary forms of treatment and are often used together.
Electro-puncture is the use of very small electrical impulse through the acupuncture needles. This method is usually used for analgesia, muscle spasms, and pain relief, such as with a frozen shoulder. It enhances the healing process.
Cupping is a method of stimulating the acupuncture points by applying suction using a glass cup by creating a partial vacuum over the acupuncture points and channels.
